Our 4th Cycle Birthday

Monday, August 31, 2026 marked a special milestone in the history of the Duang Prateep Foundation. It was exactly 48 years to the day since the birth of the DPF, which Khru Prateep accomplished with the monetary prize that accompanied her 1978 Magsaysay Award and the support of many friends. And with Asian culture measuring astrological time in 12-year cycles, this was also our “4th Cycle,” a most auspicious anniversary.

Due to the importance of the upcoming forced relocation of the people from the area they have lived in for generations, this year’s birthday get-together began with an urgent discussion session on the next steps concerning the housing demands that were presented to the Minister for Transport by community representatives on 20 August. A religious ceremony conducted by nine Buddhist monks then followed, to bless not only the foundation and its staff but also the numerous friends and supporters of the DPF, both past and present. After which, a food offering was made to the monks.

We had many well-wishers arriving on the day, to whom we would like to express our sincere appreciation. These included Mr. Bamrung Samniang-ngam (Director of Klong Toey District) and staff of the Klong Toey District Office; Father Joseph H. Maier of the Human Development Foundation; representatives from Sikkha Asia Foundation and the Bangkok Metropolitan Council Member for Klong Toey District; as well as school principals, teaching staff, representatives from child development centers, community committee chairpersons and representatives from various sectors.
