Mr. Wanchai Kokheng: His First and Only ID Card

Mr. Wanchai Kokheng, a 64-year-old man who earns a living collecting recyclable materials, is illiterate and can only write his own name. He resides in the Lock 1-2-3 slum community in Khlong Toei. His story came to light when his only surviving relative reached out for help through the community leader, who then contacted the Duang Prateep Foundation. Upon learning of his situation, the foundation’s team conducted a thorough investigation: gathering evidence, locating witnesses, and working closely with government agencies through the necessary legal and administrative processes. As a result, Mr. Wanchai has now received his very first national ID card. From this point forward, he will have access to public healthcare and government services on an equal footing with others. This ID card is more than just a document—it is a formal recognition of Mr. Wanchai’s identity and his rightful claim to the benefits and protections afforded to every citizen.
